Developing Nail Maintenance Skills

Monday 15th July 2019

Need Help to Trim your Dog’s Nails?

This course is specifically designed to enable you to develop key skills to maintain your dog’s nails. Your dog may be OK having their nails trimmed by the groomer but you would like to learn more about the subject so you can do it yourself. Or your dog hates having their their paws and nails touched and you would like to learn how to do this yourself, rather than having to have your dog sedated at the vets.

On this course you will learn how to use counter conditioning and desensitisation to produce a positively conditioned emotional response to various nail maintenance tools and skills. In other words, we will show you how to take things right back to basics to build a solid foundation so your dog not only tolerates their nails being maintained, but actually enjoys it.

We’ll show you how to make a scratch board and get your dogs filing their own nails, as well as introducing you and your dogs to a nail filing tool, and the best clippers. You and your dog will learn how to relax and enjoy nail maintenance, with the various options available to you. We’ll cover the anatomy of the nail, why it’s important to keep them short, how to cut / trim / file, and how to teach your dog to enjoy the process.

This course will be three practical sessions that are two weeks apart, this means that you will have plenty of time to make progress in between sessions. The cost is £75 per handler and dog.
