SCENT 1: INTRODUCTION TO SCENTWORK

Your dog will be introduced to a specific scent (catnip, cheese, ginger) and encouraged to give an active indication when they have found the source of the scent.

Working as a team with your dog, you will learn basic handling skills, free searches and blind searches.

SCENT 2: HANDLING SKILLS

Taking things up a level, Scent 2 concentrates on handling skills, introducing directed searches and search patterns. These allow teams to increase the challenge of the searches, including changes of height, duration of search and multiple/zero finds. Building on the foundation searches, this day will push the boundaries and challenge your team.

This workshop is open to all handlers who have completed S1 as a handler, or as a spectator who has taught their dog to find one specific scent and give an active indication (i.e. retrieve the article.)

SCENT 3: SKILL BUILDER

Building on the use of search patterns, searches become longer, thresholds become smaller. Hiding scented articles inside items inside other items requires the team to work more accurately and efficiently. Some new on lead searches, such as baggage and postal sacks, may also be introduced. This workshop is open to everyone who has completed S2.

SCENT 5: PRACTISE DAY

A day of honing skills through multiple finds, blank searches and declaring the search area clear. Find out just how well you and your dog are really working. Great preparation for Scent 6!

This workshop is open to all handlers who have completed S3.

Talking Dogs Scentwork® is based on the work that founder, Pam Mackinnon, did in Customs and Excise, and adapted to be fun for our pet dogs.

Registration, and kettle on, from 9.30am and the day starts at 10am. We will finish by 4.30pm.
